I was just surfing the the internet when I came across the quote by Oscar Wilde "Anybody can sympathise with the sufferings of a friend, but it requires a very fine nature to sympathise with a friend's success." It was a telepathy- I have been thinking of meaning of “true friendship”of late and now I get this 'definition'.
The reason for me to contemplate about “real friendship” are the series of events that happened to me in the past few weeks. I have realized that just like any other relation the color or rather the degree of friendship changes with time. One can be your best friend today who shares all your joys and pains. But not necessarily it will remain the same for life. Even without any reason, the bond of friendship can be lost.
We all know the proverb “ A friends in need is a friends indeed”. True. But what Oscar Wilde said has a great significance. I think many of us has experienced that the friends who supported us in our lows gradually creates a distance with our success.
So who is true friend?
Definitely someone who is non-judgmental, compassionate, forgiving and more than anything else can understand you even if don't say a word. A friend is supposed to be the one who points your mistakes but supports you when you need it: friend is the one with whom one shares the darkest secrets, the joys as well as the tears. Life without friends is almost incomplete.
But to remain best of friends, we have to work on the relationship. We cant take friends to be granted, though often we do so with our best of friends.
True friendship can result in great comfort and support;. Ideally friendship should be unconditional but like all other relationships in the worldit is a give and take situation. Sometimes we are on the receiving end, while other times we are on the giving end of the relationship. Our preoccupation with other things in life should not make us forget to keep in touch with our friends. Often we loose our best friends as we get too busy with our own life that we forget to notice what is happening in their life. And loosing a friend is a bigger loss than losing a precious gem .Because, after all
A friend is someone we turn to
when our spirits need a lift.
A friend is someone we treasure
for our friendship is a gift.
A friend is someone who fills our lives
with beauty, joy, and grace.
And makes the whole world we live in
a better and happier place.
